Pierre Louis Geldenhuys
Born in South Africa and based in Spain, Pierre Louis Geldenhuys is a multidisciplinary artist with academic training in Theatrical Scenography and Fashion Design from Tswane University of Technology in Pretoria and Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town.
In the mid-1990s, he began his professional career as part of the costume team at The State Theatre in Pretoria, later evolving into a fashion and haute couture designer for Rosenwerth in Cape Town. He also stood out during this period as an interior designer and mural painter for Art-Call and CT Loft Interiors, created sculptural pieces for TV commercials with Honda, and developed designs for Young Designers Emporium (YDE) and Coast Line Clothing.
In 2012, he settled in Spain, where the Arab architecture of southern regions sparked his fascination and led him to explore the world of textile art and geometric tessellations.

His early works are distinguished by the "stitched collage" technique —a textile representation of Arabic mosaics— whose compositions enhance beauty through the fusion of traditional and contemporary textile art.
After a brief period, he immersed himself in deep research on tessellation techniques and the artistic use of wild silk. From this process emerged an innovative method of textile tessellation, radically different from classical paper-based approaches.
Beyond textiles, he experiments with raw fiberglass, which astonishingly resembles the fluidity of wild silk, offering infinite geometric possibilities that come alive in space —evoking sculpture.
CONTRIBUTIONS OF HIS INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE
From the beginning, the aesthetic of his work has been linked to the concept of beauty. But in recent years, it has undergone a significant transformation by incorporating a conceptual layer that long resonated with him: conveying the urgency to listen closely to nature's cry and the need to save the planet. This evolution has given rise to artworks that share a unified discourse, yet each possesses its own distinct voice.
Each piece, beyond being rooted in personal experience, represents an element of the Planet or Universe —a natural resource, an animal or plant species, a habitat, an ecosystem, a natural phenomenon, a season, an energy source, a culture, or humanity itself— all seriously threatened, endangered, or depleted. These works express suffering and loss, yet carry a halo of hope.
His artworks embody these allegorical cycles of life, interwoven with hundreds and thousands of meters of thread that not only pierce and knot the folds of fabric but also hang, accumulate, and rest at the base of the piece —conveying the idea of living artworks that demand attention, without sacrificing the rigorous geometric order central to his practice. Thread becomes a new language of artistic expression, further enriching the aesthetics of beauty.
He combines the richness of materials, precision of technique, harmony of geometry, expressive power of color, and diverse lighting effects with this new thread-based language —not only to pursue beauty, but to directly express his inner world, convey emotions, and create an interdisciplinary dialogue with the viewer.
